Santo Domingo.- In the continuation of the tours through different points of the National District to follow up on the mitigation work against the Melissa rains, Carolina Mejia He called this Sunday for citizens to be aware of the way they throw garbage in the street, affecting the drainage system and the environment.
Highlighting the great work of the more than 1,500 brigade members of the Mayor’s Office of the National District in recent days, Mejía supervised the work carried out in the Honduras sector. “These men are truly incredible, they do a job that is indescribable.”

Carolina highlighted how these brigade members carry out their usual cleaning tasks so that the city can maintain its operation, but asked the residents of the capital for greater collaboration in waste management.
The municipal executive pointed out the way in which the collectors and filters are affected by the amount of waste, mostly plastic, which hinders these vital elements for the city to drain efficiently in times of rain.
“What you are talking about is the lack of awareness we have and that it is now essential that we change the way we throw garbage in the street. Help us take care of them and have a better city, which is what we all deserve,” he urged.
Given the incidence of tropical storm Melissa (now a hurricane), Carolina has continued making tours to verify the work that the Mayor’s Office of the National District is carrying out in Las 800, Los Girasoles, Los Platanitos, La Ciénaga, Villa Juana, El Hoyo de Bate, La Zurza, Los Güandules, among other sectors that have points that have been identified as critical.
As a result of the work of the brigade members and the visits of the mayor, neighborhood associations of Los Platanitos, Manganagua, Urbanización Fernández, La Ciénaga, Ciudad Nueva, 30 de Mayo and La Arenita evaluated the work carried out before and during the incidence of the atmospheric phenomenon.
