Rio de Janeiro Fire Department agents (CBMERJ) rescued 453 people from drowning since last Friday (13). The corporation’s work on beaches across the state has been reinforced, as the number of bathers increases significantly during the carnival period.
Since the beginning of summer, most of the lifeguards have been working in mobile posts, as explained by the Secretary of State for Civil Defense and general commander of CBMERJ, Colonel Tarciso Salles:
“These structures expand our response capacity and guarantee more mobility for teams, who can strategically reposition themselves according to the flow of bathers and changes in sea conditions. With this, we make service even more agile, efficient and preventive along the entire coast of the state”
Agents also have the help of high-resolution drones and thermal cameras, to make it easier to locate people in emergency situations.
Since January 1st, more than 4,800 rescues have been carried out on the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
