The month of January is characterized by several festivals that take place in towns and cities in the interior of the department.
As we reported, the year began with the celebration of the 82 years of the founding of what is now Villa Isidoro Noblía where there was a massive artistic show that closed with a performance by Lucas Sugo.
The programming continued last weekend – Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th – with the celebrations for the 117 years of the city of Fraile Muerto, which had artistic programming and the election of the Queen of the Beach.
In Lago Merín there are several proposals planned for these days with Sirenita Merín and Por Siempre Sirenas first and Edition 32 of Reina del Lago in the second fortnight of the month.
“We were in Noblía on Thursday and in Fraile Muerto on Saturday accompanying these celebrations. We will also be in Laguna Merín because there are also attractive activities for all the people who go sightseeing there. There will be live music on the beach, DJ, a Three Kings party is being organized for today. All this shows that the department has a lot of movement and that beyond the partial stoppage of some festive activities there is an interesting proposal” highlighted the Departmental Mayor of Cerro Largo.
“This type of festival is very good for these towns for the enjoyment of all who live there” considered Jose Yurramendi at a press conference.
Cerro Largo’s forte is not tourism, but in any case, both the public and private sectors promote different activities that generate tourist movement, especially within the department. “These things generate movements and although we are not the main point, the department has important tourism. These types of parties make the movement interesting, that many people move internally within the department. Laguna Merín and Fraile Muerto are places that always attract a lot of people. “We believe that it is important that people have the opportunity to enjoy quality and renowned artists.” he stated.

“The Carnival Coordinator has already called for registrations with a deadline around January 20” Yurramendi recalled. “The priority is always the local groups, several of them have been working for a long time” He highlighted while pointing out that the deadline is set to determine budget allocations and aspects linked to the organization of the main tourist activity in the city of Melo.
“Later, some national or international show will be added because that generates a positive impact on tourism. It is the week with the highest tourist influx of the entire year, it moves thousands of people working. We know what a popular festival it is traditionally and it is going to be, like every year, a great party.” assured the Mayor.
“It will have the great essence that our people have, the way of living the carnival with the additive that will be given by artists and great cultural expressions that will come from outside to fill this great grid that the department has” he pointed out.
KEEP THE LEVEL
“The idea is to maintain the level” held. “As we said in the last electoral campaign and at the time of the inauguration, our aspiration is that the product is maintained and that each year it costs the Municipality a little less” he remembered.
