Carmen Meléndez was sworn as mayor of Caracas

In special session of the Municipal Council of Caracas held in the Plaza Bolívar, Carmen Meléndez took an oath as mayor of the Libertador municipality for the 2025-2029 period.

Jorgert López, president of the Municipal Chamber, was in charge of taking oath and investing with the band to the mayor, who promised to give faithful fulfillment to the construction of communal power.

“I swear that I will not rest, I swear I will be throughout our city of Caracas listening to our people, complying with the plan of the 7 transformations and I will not rest until the last commitment assumed fulfills,” he said energetically before the people who accompanied it in this celebration.

Meléndez was ratified for a new 4 -year period, with more than 360,000 votes in the last elections of July 27, in accordance with the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Just two days after being reelected in office, during the act of proclamation and delivery of credentials, Carmen Meléndez said that he will remain working next to President Nicolás Maduro, for the revolution and legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez.

They accompanied the act of oath: the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Caryslia Rodríguez; the Head of Government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández; Deputies to the National Assembly, ministers, representatives of the embassies of Mexico, Nicaragua, Iran and Russia, in addition to the organized people.

“I have sworn in with the people”

“Today I have sworn in with the people of Caracas. We and we go towards the new transformations we have for the capital city, following the guidelines of President Nicolás Maduro to change everything that has to be changed,” he said.

He said that he will focus his management towards that obdial government: listening and fulfilling. To do this, he invited the empowered people to join their concrete action agendas (ACA) to fulfill the plan of the 7 transformations in Caracas.

In that sense, he stressed that important advances have been achieved in all communities, but there is still a lot to do and “we will achieve that united to transform and consolidate what we have done so far. Dismiss the bad and move on.”

He pointed out that, with the new governance method, it will continue to transform the capital city to be one of the best in the world.

Caracas smiles arrives to stay

As part of these transformations, he highlighted the role that Operation Caracas has played, which for 44 days made a tour of the 22 parishes of the municipality, where 56 communes and 423 communal councils were served.

“A new governance method. That experience we had to listen to the people and solve in real time, gave us the opportunity to say: there is the way (…) we can scientifically demonstrate how many solutions is provided in real time working in the territory,” he said.

Mayor Carmen Meléndez reported that on Monday, August 11, she will begin the second phase of Caracas smiles with the installation of the camps to reach each community with the caravans of the solutions and continue to provide answers to the people.
