Carlos Treviño, former director of Pemex, is detained in the US, reports Sheinbaum

When asked about a possible release of Treviño, the president commented that the information from the security cabinet is that he remains detained.

“There is no information about that, what the representative of the prosecution informed us is that he was detained by the United States,” he commented.

Carlos Treviño was director of Pemex in the last months of the government of former president Enrique Peña Nieto. He was appointed to replace José Antonio González Anaya, who became the Secretary of the Treasury.

The former official was accused of having received 4 million pesos in exchange for favoring Odebrecht with contracts.

Carlos Treviño was detained on August 12 in Texas by members of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE).

In November 2021, Interpol issued a red card for the location and detention of Carlos Alberto Treviño Medina. The crimes for which they are accused are operations with resources of illicit origin and criminal association.
