HOLY SUNDAY.-In a solemn canonical ceremony, nuanced by the Christmas air and songs as a flame of life, the coadjutor archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán, led the closing of the Jubilee Year 2025 together with Archbishop Francisco Ozoria and a large part of the archdiocesan clergy.
With this celebration held in the Primate Cathedral of America and which had as its central theme “Pilgrims of Hope”, the Catholic Church gave thanks for the fruits received during the Jubilee Year, which it described as an opportunity to renew the life of faith expressed in pilgrimage to the jubilee temples.
There, Morel Diplán, together with Archbishop Francisco Ozoria and Monsignor Benito Ángeles, past auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, meant that the hope and gaze of society must be placed on Jesus Christ and that is why the father invites us to be pilgrims of hope and walking towards peace.
Family: it is hope
“On this day when we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family and the Holy Innocents, the family is also a sign of hope, although many have placed hope in economic well-being and left aside the main institution, the human being, which is not a political party,” he said.
Morel Diplán insisted that we must pay attention to the family, because when it forms or educates a human being, it contributes to society; Likewise, when one sees a persevering couple faithfully living their relationship, it is a sign of hope for society. However, he said that there are people who are inventing the opposite. In the homily he highlighted that Pope Francis invites us to be a sign of hope.
Prisons
Monsignor Morel Diplán also called for increased efforts to improve the dignity of prisons so that those deprived of liberty have the opportunity to reintegrate into society.
“Prisons should be a sign of hope, it is not yet understood that at this stage there are prisons in the country where human beings live overcrowded in these centers.”
Work for peace
He commented that everyone must work for peace as a sign of hope. He complained that calls for peace have been ignored and wars persist.
He said that Pope Leo XIV insists and promotes peace in the world.
Opportunity for young people
The coadjutor archbishop also referred to young people as instruments of hope for the Church and society in general.
That is why he raised the need to serve young people and open spaces for them to develop.
