Negro, a lawyer from the University of the Republic since 1991, has worked for 17 years in the Attorney General’s Office. He currently holds his position as Homicide Prosecutor, being an active figure in criminal investigations, as demonstrated this Friday when attending the scene of a murder in the Reus neighborhood.
Sources from the Frente Amplio confirmed that the position was offered to Negro, who is also the son of a former deputy of the Frente Amplio during the period of democratic transition (1985-1990) by list 99. His closeness with Jorge Díaz, designated as future pro-secretary of the Presidency, reinforces his profile within Orsi’s cabinet.
In recent weeks, other names were also discussed for the Ministry of the Interior, including that of the former director of Coexistence and Citizen Security, Gustavo Leal. However, Negro has gained strength as the preferred candidate to lead the portfolio.
President-elect Orsi and his team are finalizing the details of the cabinet, which will be officially announced next week. Nine names already confirmed for other areas of the Executive were announced, among which Gabriel Oddone in Economy and Finance, Mario Lubetkin in the Foreign Ministry, and Cristina Lustemberg in Public Health stand out.
Lubetkin, current FAO representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, is a journalist with an extensive career in international communication and development cooperation. He has held key positions in international organizations and carried out academic work at universities in Europe.
