Federal and state authorities confirmed this Saturday night the murder of the municipal president of Uruapan, Michoacán, Carlos Manzoafter an attack that occurred in the city center.
According to the Mexican Security Cabinet, two people allegedly involved were arrested after the attack, while one of the attackers died during the events.
Attack and first security actions
The Security Cabinet reported that the events occurred in the central area of Uruapan. During the attack, Carlos Manzo lost his life, and one of the attackers also died. Two more people related to the attack were placed at the disposal of the authorities.
The Government of Michoacán and federal forces deployed an immediate operation to protect the area, maintain preventive patrols and guarantee the safety of the population.
State government condemns the attack
The governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, “strongly condemned the cowardly attack” against the mayor and confirmed the arrest of those allegedly responsible.
The State Secretary of Public Security, Juan Carlos Oseguera, and elements of the National Guard are in Uruapan coordinating security and investigation actions.
State and federal authorities reported that all security agencies are working together to clarify the crime. So far, no further details have been released about the motive for the attack or the identity of the detainees.
The state government stated that it will continue to report as the investigations progress.
