MIAMI, United States. — Cuban-American professor Carlos Lazo, leader of the “Bridges of Love” group, met this Wednesday with President Miguel Díaz-Canel at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana.
The meeting, in which a representation of North American students, parents and teachers visiting the Island was also present, was reviewed in Twitter by the Presidency of Cuba.
“We will continue working for peace, for love,” Carlos Lazo assured the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).
Díaz-Canel, for his part, praised Lazo’s work as a reference for the pro-Castro and anti-embargo movements outside the island.
“What you are doing, in addition to the contribution that means in aid, in solidarity, is also an awakening of consciences, that in the end is what makes the movement stronger,” the president told the Cuban-American professor.
According to the Presidency of Cuba, “in the meeting that advocated more ‘Bridges of love,’ because solidarity cannot be blocked.”
Carlos Lazo himself offered in social networks details of the meeting with the top brass of the Cuban regime.
“Today, a representation of American parents, teachers and students had the opportunity to meet with the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel. At the meeting, the Cuban president thanked the efforts of Americans and Cubans living abroad to lift the sanctions that weigh on the Cuban people and build “Bridges of Love” between the peoples of Cuba and the United States.”
Lazo reports that, at the meeting, “US parents, teachers and students recognized the need for their government to lift the blockade that is suffocating the Cuban people.”
The professor also “reiterated to the president and the Cuban authorities the importance and need for Cuba to strengthen the bridges of love between the Nation and its emigrants.”
It is not the first time that Carlos Lazo has met with Miguel Díaz-Canel at the Palace of the Revolution. A similar meeting took place August 25th last year, little more than a month after the anti-government protests for which hundreds of Cubans would be sentenced to prison.
