Mabel Calderín, wife of human rights defender Carlos Correa, demanded from the outskirts of the Ombudsman’s Office that the authorities inform her where she is. He also requested his freedom because he reiterated that he has not committed any crime and “he is a man of integrity.”

Calderín, who demanded that the Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruíz, demand that other government authorities respond for Correa’s life and health.

The co-founder of the NGO Provea, Raúl Cubas, accompanied Carlos Correa’s wife to the Ombudsman’s Office, and explained that they will try to meet with Alfredo Ruiz to “demand that he fulfill his constitutional obligation to defend the victims of human rights violations.” human rights by State officials, which is the case of Carlos Correa.

Provea also demanded that the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, provide information on Correa’s whereabouts. Likewise, they recalled that days ago a Habeas corpus before the Caracas Criminal Circuit and they have not been notified about the admission of the appeal or about possible procedures carried out by the authorities to determine the place where Carlos Correa is held.

Correa is a journalist, human rights defender, professor at the Human Rights Center of the Andrés Bello Catholic University, director of Espacio Público and was also coordinator of Provea.

Various international organizations have expressed concern about the persecutions and arbitrary detentions in Venezuela and have requested the immediate release of all political prisoners. Even the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures for the benefit of human rights defender Carlos Correa, after considering that he is in a serious and urgent situation “since his rights to life and personal integrity face a risk of irreparable damage in Venezuela.”
