Carlos Correa’s wife demands information after confirming opaque judicial presentation

Mabel Calderín, wife of Carlos Correa, explained that she was received by the National Prosecutor No. 52 for Economic Crimes, Alirio Mendoza, who told her that Carlos Correa was presented to court on Thursday, January 9.


Mabel Calderín, wife of human rights defender, Carlos Correa, explained through a video via X that she was received by the 52nd National Prosecutor for Economic Crimes, Alirio Mendoza. The prosecutor told him that Correa had been presented to court on January 9.

According to Calderín, the prosecutor told him that Correa had been presented with public defense. In addition, Mendoza said that he could not be explained what charges were brought against Correa or his location, but that the case is being handled by the Fourth Control Court with Competence in Terrorism.

She adds that, after the meeting with Mendoza, she went to the Sebin headquarters in El Helicoide to ask about her husband and they denied her the information.

Carlos Correa He has been detained for eight days, after being taken away by a group of hooded people dressed in black when leaving his office in the center of Caracas, on Tuesday, January 7.

Calderín highlights that she has not received information about her husband’s location for eight days. “That is more than alarming and that is why I am insisting that they give me Carlos’s whereabouts,” says Mabel Calderín in the video shared by Espacio Público networks.

The wife of the human rights defender demands a response from the authorities and that she be allowed access to the place where Correa is located and that he can receive the medications and medical supervision that he requires due to the various conditions he suffers from: obesity, morbid , high blood pressure, thyroid problems, dermatological problems, prostate deficiency, among others.

“For all of this that I have just described (…) I demand that the authorities please provide information on Carlos’s whereabouts, that they give him access to his medications, his treatments, and medical supervision. And, definitely, that they grant him full freedom. Let them return Carlos to us, because Carlos has to be with us, with his family, doing his job and fulfilling the mission that he has always carried out with integrity,” concludes Calderín.
