Carlos Alvarez: "I would ask Julio Velarde to stay at the BCR"

The presidential candidate Carlos Alvarez dio an interview as a candidate for the 2026 Elections and during the conversation he had with Mónica Delta in Punto Final he focused his recent proposals on the need for a restructuring of the national budget, pointing out a marked disparity in the distribution of funds and the lack of political decision to prioritize the needs of the population from the “bottom up.”

In this same context, he indicated that he would reaffirm Julio Velarde as head of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru and stated that he would like to have someone like Velarde in Petroperú.

Within the budgetary issue, Álvarez cited specific figures of the money assigned to each area, contrasting the global amount with the district allocations and lamented the inequitable distribution between one district and another. “This thing has to change with political decision,” he said.

When asked if his eventual government has a defined political line, Álvarez stressed that the priority of his management will be the most vulnerable population, an approach that should guide the distribution of resources.

“The fact that it goes from the bottom up,” he stated, indicating that spending should focus on the foundations of society.

In the context of the controversial regional policies, Álvarez emphasized the importance of maintaining the legal framework to guarantee the economic stability of the country:

“The Constitution maintains stability because the economic chapter of the Constitution is changed,” he asserted.

The candidate mentioned that he is similar to the fight against crime that Bukele had in his country and judged the government of José Jerí due to the lack of results that are currently being seen.
