Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Don announced his retirement from professional activity this Friday. The now former goalkeeper recalled the moment of his presentation in Paraguayan soccer, which took place with the Nacional shirt at the Olla de Cerro Porteño.
After announcing the end of his career, Don recalled the moment of his first appearance in the tricolor jersey, back in the 2005 on the ‘old’ Azulgrana Pot and entering from the substitute bench: “There was a little problem between Miguel Cárdenas, our goalkeeper, and the referee Carlos Amarilla. (This) expels Miguel and I, without the coach telling me, I already started to warm up”.
“I had to defend the goal on the changing room side, I saved the whole second half. We maintained that 1-0 with which we were winning (…) A debut with victory and without goals (conceded)”, he added in detail.
In addition, the 40-year-old Paraguayan nationalized Argentine recalled his first game as a starter: “The other game was the debut as a starter against Guaraníon the field of October 12 in Itauguá. There I was able to save Pedro Irala a penalty”.
In this context, ‘Nacho’ actually achieved the highest record of saved penalties in the history of Paraguayan soccer, with 16.
