Under the tutelage of the prestigious Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta, the Acosta Dance company will present two of its most recognized productions in the United Kingdom in 2026: Nutcracker in Havanascheduled for January, and Carmenwhich will hit British theaters in the spring.
As confirmed by the company itself in Facebookboth works will be part of next year’s international programming.
Nutcracker in Havana It will open the winter season with performances in several cities in the United Kingdom. The show will return to the stages of Sheffield, Aberdeen, Inverness, Chester, York, Edinburgh and Norwich, consolidating a tour that combines the tradition of classical ballet with a reinterpretation marked by elements of Cuban culture.
According to a report from Latin Pressin the spring, Carmen will add a proposal of greater dramatic intensity, focused on the passion and conflict of the famous character.
Carlos Acosta, director of the company and current director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, expressed his satisfaction at seeing Acosta Danza performing Nutcracker in Havana and highlighted the performance of the cast during this new international tour.
In messages posted on Facebookdescribed the work of the group as “wonderful” and said he was proud of the dancers for taking on another tour of foreign stages.
Last September, Acosta Danza celebrated a decade of “sacrifices and dedication” on stage with his fusion of classical and contemporary techniques. Acosta (Havana, 1973) founded the company at the end of 2015, although it made its artistic debut in April 2016 in the midst of the Havana cultural boom that came hand in hand with the rapprochement between Cuba and the United States.
Acosta, current director of the Royal Ballet of Birmingham, is considered by critics to be one of the greatest references in world dance.
Trained at the National Ballet School in Havana, from a very young age he consolidated a career backed by numerous distinctions, including the Prix De Lausanne in 1990. He retired from the stage in 2016 after 28 years dancing professionally in prestigious companies in Cuba and the world.
