The internal elections in the Purple Party to determine who will participate in the municipal and regional elections will be this May 15, and the current councilor Carlo Angeles has decided to run as a candidate. In this sense, he offers to combat citizen insecurity, improve public transport and make Lima a sustainable territory.
Likewise, he gave his opinion on the government of President Pedro Castillo, and said that he believes that there is still time to rectify his mistakes, but, if he does not do so, he must step aside, together with the members of Congress.
Why did you decide to run in the internships to tempt the mayor’s office?
We have decided to apply because, from the role that I have had to play as alderman, we have seen a large part of Lima’s problems, from transportation – which I know is no longer a direct responsibility of the Municipality of Lima, but which has interference through the ATU-, the fight against mafias, against citizen insecurity and the care of public spaces. I have had the opportunity and the honor to say that I have led many neighborhood struggles that have gone against movable interests that could have done enormous damage to the ecosystem of Lima. The reason why I decided to launch myself is precisely because it is time to take these fights from the council to the executive part and, above all, to the public agenda.

Do you know who you will face in the internals?
At the moment there is a group of candidates. I understand that the four candidates would be Luis Santos, Guillermo Flores, Cinthia Corrales and myself.
If elected, what do you plan to offer Lima in his candidacy?
We want to build a candidacy based on citizen representation and, indeed, that starts in this first instance, from representing not only the party, but also the neighbors, and part of what we want to promote is that the largest number of districts be present at the Lima Council. In addition to this, my candidacy will be developed on two main points, one of them is citizen security; The Municipality can do a lot to fight the mafias. And as for the second point, I think it is important to highlight the opportunity we have to be a sustainable city and this starts from many angles, but a commitment that I will assume as a candidate for mayor of Lima will be that, in my four years as municipal government , 2 million trees can be planted throughout Metropolitan Lima, especially in areas with the greatest tree deficit, such as Comas, Independencia or Carabayllo.
What do you think of the Government of Pedro Castillo?
The government of President Pedro Castillo has mishandled the expectations it generated, and that is due to the terrible appointments it has made to trusted officials. I believe that the president has given his trust to the wrong people, and that has led to his image and that of the government reaching the point of disapproval as high as the one he has now, less than a year after starting his mandate.
YOU CAN SEE: Vote of confidence: would the cabinet of Aníbal Torres manage to receive the support of Congress?
Do you think he should resign, be vacated or do you think he can still rectify himself and complete his years in government?
I think that he still has a chance to rectify himself and that, if he doesn’t, he must, necessarily – and according to the disapproval (of the people) in the context of its continuing to grow – evaluate a resignation, and that this leads to a summons to general elections.
