Caribe Tours driver who was transporting 24 illegal Haitians arrested

Santo Domingo.- The Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront) detained this Sunday a citizen who was transporting 24 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status, aboard a Caribe Tours bus.

According to a statement published by the institution, the driver, identified as Francisco Calixto Martich de la Cruz, was arrested through intelligence work carried out on the Castañuelas-Guayubín highway section, Montecristi province.

The group was made up of nine women, two minors and thirteen men, including two members of a Haitian gang known as “Pateas”. They were identified as Sentile Presendie and Agustin Jonas.

The illegal Haitians were transferred to the Battle of Sabana Larga Border Operations Base, where, in the presence of the Public Ministry, they were seized, confiscating the sum of 40,600 pesos from the driver.

Presendie was seized the sum of 35,900 Dominican pesos, 32,225 gourdes (Haitian currency), 100 dollars and a cell phone. While Jonas was seized the sum of 950 pesos, 5 dollars, 20,650 gourdes and two cell phones.

In addition, the amount of six gallons of “Clerén” rum, 48 units of Bakará brand rum and 12 units of 8PM rum, goods of foreign origin, which were hidden inside the bus, were seized.

As for the detainee, the foreigners, the vehicle and the seized items, they were handed over to the Montecristi Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.
