Caribbean parliamentarians express their support for the Venezuelan people

Caribbean countries expressed their full support and support for the Venezuelan people after the brutal military deployment of the United States, on the northern coasts of Venezuela, during the Meeting of Parliamentarians of the Greater Caribbean in Defense of Peace.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua, Denis Ronaldo Moncada, expressed that the island countries of the Caribbean and the continental countries south of the Rio Bravo, “we consistently fight for peace, an inalienable right, fundamental for our existence that we all defend with patriotic love”, action with justice, freedom, sovereignty, independence, self-determination and dignity.

He added that the Nicaraguan people stand in solidarity with the Venezuelans: “we fight for the peace of free peoples who are supporting the brothers of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela” who are attacked by the United States, in which “it flagrantly transgresses international law, the UN charter, the Treaty of Tlatelolco and the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.”

For her part, the vice president of the National Assembly of the Republic of Cuba, Ana María Mari Machado, exalted that the Caribbean is not the backyard of the United States, but that “we are free and sovereign peoples; we have the right to defend ourselves and draw our own political, economic and cultural designs, with full independence and adherence to international law; we have the right to speak out on behalf of our people.”

“Cuba’s rejection of the threatening proposal of a doctrine they call peace through strengthMari Machado stressed that the position of the US government with the use of threat, cohesion, aggression and provocations, “are unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, the Colombian senator, Gloria Flórez Schneider, called for cohesion and political action between the people, government, parliament and parties in unified actions to have a greater impact: “a great call for Latin American and Caribbean mobilization led by the creative articulation of progressive governments with social movements, the people and the government (…) with the union of artists, the force of the culture that passes through us.”

Likewise, the secretary of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, Luis Eduardo Martínez, highlighted that today, in absolute and total unity, Venezuelans strive to preserve peace and sovereignty on a single path that “for 10 years has been in extreme difficulties due to the force of a country and an empire that insists on imposing itself on our people.”
