The Silais located on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua continue in the queue for vaccination against covid-19, and report the lowest percentages of the application of the complete scheme, reveals an analysis of the data from the 2022 Health Map, which has just been published. be updated by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
According to the report, the Silais of the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCS), 66.8% of its inhabitants have received the first dose, but only 57% of these have completed their scheme. This is the lowest percentage in the entire country, which claims to have 92% immunization coverage against covid-19.
This Silais includes the municipalities of La Cruz de Río Grande, El Tortuguero, Kukra Hill, Bluefields, Laguna de Perlas, the Mouth of the Río Grande and Corn Island.
Vaccination in this Silais has been the slowest since official reports were published. The last update was published in July 2022, when it was reported that 108,709 residents had completed their scheme. As of December of that same year, the Minsa only managed to add 10,661 doses.
El Silais – Las Minas, which covers Bonanza, Rosita, Siuna, Mulukukú and Paiwas, reached a vaccination rate of 74%. Meanwhile, the population vaccinated with the first dose already amounts to 90.8%. For its part, the Silais – Bilwi that includes Puerto Cabezas, Waspam and Prinzapolka have 75.5% of its inhabitants vaccinated with a complete scheme.
Instead, the Silais-Zelaya Central, which covers the territories of El Rama, Muelle de los Bueyes, El Coral and Nueva Guinea, stands out as the area of the country with the largest immunized population. According to Minsa figures, coverage has already exceeded 100%.
Minsa reveals applied reinforcements for the first time
The official report ensures that 92.9% of the Nicaraguan population has already completed their vaccination schedule against covid-19; although the Health Map does not detail the number of reinforcement doses that have been applied. The Minsa revealed to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) that they have applied 2,976,531 booster doses.
As detailed by PAHO, on your American vaccination board, Minsa has applied 15.2 million doses against covid-19, of these 6.2 million are first doses, six million are second doses, 2.9 million first booster doses and 84,000 second booster doses. No figures for the single doses applied (Pfizer and Sputnik Light) are reported, but these would have been included in the first dose count.

Vaccination from July to December was slow

The data by departments and municipality is obtained by doing a manual review by the 17 Silais that exist in the country.
The Health Map has had three updates in the last year. The first occurred in February 2022 when the vaccination percentage was 58%, the following month there was a slight update and it was not until July of that year that the Minsa updated the data again. In that last report, the Silais of the North Caribbean that previously had low levels of vaccination, registered an increase of up to 179%.
The new data, updated until December 31, 2022, reveals that although there was an increase in vaccination in all the country’s territories, it was slow. El Sialis – Boaco, which has 82% of its population vaccinated with both doses, only managed to add 2,712 new people who completed their vaccination schedule, between August and December.
Silais-Rivas could only add 3,801 people with a complete scheme, while Chontales only increased 4,380 doses that completed the scheme against covid-19, and Silais-Nueva Segovia added 4,141.
The Silais that increased the population vaccinated with two doses were: Managua with 63,747, Jinotega with 55,939, Matagalpa with 31,462, and Chinandega with 23,930.
The five departments that lead vaccination in Nicaragua are Matagalpa, Jinotega, León, Nueva Segovia, Managua and Carazo.
