The Archbishop of Lima, Monsignor Carlos Castillo, announced that he will go to the Vatican to contribute to the election of the new Pope. This was reported during a Mass held in memory of the Death Pope Francis. Therefore, he asked the faithful to pray for him and for all those involved in the next decision.
“I say goodbye today because I will have to start the trip to contribute to the choice of the new Pope. They pray for us so that the Holy Spirit enlighten us and a Pope as great as the one we have had can come as a consequence of the choice we can have,” he said.
According to the process of the Catholic Church, after the death of the Pope, the conclave is carried out, a hermetic process that brings together all cardinals under 80 years in the world in the Sistine Chapel, in the Vatican.
The term comes from the Latin “cum key”, which means “with a key”, since the cardinals meet in an isolated place and cannot leave until a new Pope has been chosen.
During the process the cardinals undergo a secret voting process. Each cardinal writes the name of the candidate who chooses on a ballot and deposits it in an urn. To be elected Pope, a candidate needs to obtain two thirds of the votes of the cardinals present.
If there is no agreement, the ballots are burned and the black smoke that comes out through the chimney of the Sistine Chapel indicates that there is still no decision. On the other hand, if the successor of Pope Francis has been chosen, a white smoke will come out as a sign of the election.
Cardinal Carlos Castillo regrets the death of Pope Francis: “He worked for the Church and for Humanity”

“We ask all of its prayers for Francis so that, from the kingdom of God, we continue giving us the strength and spirit to testify to him vividly. I want to express to all the sorrow we feel and the hope that we still have left of someone who testified to Jesus Christ and it was the transparency of him in his life,” he said.
He also thanked al Pope Francis For its generous delivery and asked the Church to continue with the synodal projects that the Supreme Pontiff managed to intensify, guide and propose in order to “have a church at the height of the difficult situation in the world.”
“The blessing of Merciful God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, descends on all of us, especially Peru and about the world. And always remain guided by Francisco’s example. And always remain guided by Francisco’s example,” he emphasized.
