Cardinal Brenes urges Nicaraguans to ask God to increase their faith

In the homily this Sunday, October 2, from the Metropolitan Cathedral, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes SolorzanoArchbishop of Managua, urged Nicaraguans to ask God to increase their faith, even more so in difficult situations.

«You have to see that thermometer to see how my faith is in the face of the events I am experiencing and humbly be able to say to the Lord: “Increase our faith”; How many times can we say that we have a deep faith, but suddenly we begin to doubt, our faith begins to cool down, but how beautiful it is that we can humbly tell the Lord; “Increase my faith” so that I can feel you closer…».

He also called for the word of God to be read with faith and practiced, “because it is the way to get to know Jesus better and in this way we become more deeply involved in his word.”

“To read the word with faith, we need to be truly aware of that. To be able to participate in the Eucharist we have to be of faith, not only participate for the sake of participating, but faith leads us to that personal, intimate and profound encounter with Jesus Christ».

Regarding the death of the mother of the Archbishop of Managua, Mrs. Lilian Solorzano, the prelate thanked his closeness to the parishioners. «The death of a family member, the death of a mother, of a father shakes the ground and one will have to say as the apostles said: “increase our faith” to discover this event».

Faithful pray for the exiled

In the collective prayer of the faithful, the Catholic Church was asked, “so that faithful to his Master he appears before the world as salt of the earth and light that shines in the darkness.”

They also asked for peace in the world, so that hunger, calamities and wars may be removed from the peoples. And in reference to the situation that Nicaragua is experiencing at the hands of the Ortega regime, it was asked “For immigrants, exiles, those deprived of liberty and for all the sick who suffer.”

Currently the Catholic Church is going through its most difficult moments, after the siege and persecution by the Daniel Ortega regime, who has imprisoned at least seven priests, including Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa.

Like the cardinal, priests around the world have called on Nicaraguans to ask God to “increase their faith” and not to lose hope that there will soon be a way out of the crisis the country is experiencing.
