Cardinal Brenes guides new movements of priests in 14 parishes

the cardinal Leopoldo Brenes reported a new rotation of religious as parish priests and administrators in 14 churches of the 118 parishes administered by the Archdiocese in the departments of Managua, Masaya and Carazo.

These new changes of religious take place in a repressive context against the Nicaraguan Church that intensified in 2022 and that continues in this new year with obstacles to freedom of worship, the siege of churches and the prosecution of priests, seminarians and deacons.

The persecution of the Daniel Ortega regime has also forced several priests to leave the country to protect their integrity and avoid being imprisoned.

The new rotations carried out by Brenes were in Managua, Masaya, Carazo, these last two departments have been heavily besieged the Catholic temples and prevented processions.

These are the new changes of priests to new Missions, carried out by the Archdiocese of Managua, directed by Brenes, this Thursday, February 2, the month in which the repression against Catholicism continues:

1. Presbyter Jimmy Pavón, who worked as Parochial Vicar of the San Sebastián Parish in Diriamba, Pastoral Zone of Carazo, is appointed Parish Administrator of the Nuestro Señor de Veracruz Parish in los Rincones, Masatepe, Pastoral Zone of Carazo.

2. Presbyter Nelson Mena, who worked as Parochial Vicar of the Parish of El Señor de los Milagros, Eastern Zone of Managua, is appointed Parish Administrator of the Parish of San Gregorio Magno in Diriamba, Pastoral Zone of Carazo.

3. Presbyter Bernardo Obando, who served as Parochial Vicar of the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Parish in Las Sierritas, is appointed Pastor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Eastern Pastoral Zone of Managua.

Four. Presbyter Miguel Gutiérrez, who worked as Parochial Vicar of the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes Parish, Central Pastoral Zone of Managua, is appointed Parish Administrator of the Santiago Apóstol Parish in La Concha, Central Pastoral Zone of Managua.

5. Priest Jairo Velásquez, who worked as Pastor of the Santa Catalina de Alejandría Parish in Catarina, Pastoral Zone of Masaya, is appointed Pastor of the Santa Clara de Asís Parish, Eastern Pastoral Zone of Managua.

6. Priest Yuer Baltodano, who worked as Pastor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Ticuantepe, Pastoral Zone of Masaya, is appointed Parochial Vicar of the San Francisco de Asís Parish, Central Pastoral Zone of Managua.

7. Presbyter Juan José Ortiz, who served as Parochial Vicar of the San Miguel Arcángel Parish, Western Pastoral Zone of Managua, is appointed Pastor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Ticuantepe, Pastoral Zone of Masaya.

8. Presbyter Elvin Garcia, who worked as Parochial Vicar of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Ticuantepe, Masaya Pastoral Zone, is appointed Parochial Vicar of San Miguel Arcángel Parish, Western Pastoral Zone of Managua.

9. Priest Jacinto Carvajal, who worked as Pastor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish in La Concha, Pastoral Zone of Masaya, is appointed Pastor of the Bella Cruz Parish in Ciudad Sandino, Western Pastoral Zone of Managua

10. Priest Oswald Ramírez, who worked as Pastor of the Bella Cruz Parish in Ciudad Sandino, Western Pastoral Zone of Managua, is appointed Pastor of the Santa Catalina de Alejandría Parish in Catarina, Pastoral Zone of Masaya.

eleven. Presbyter José Iván Cruz, who worked as Parochial Vicar of the Metropolitan Cathedral, Central Pastoral Zone of Managua, is appointed Parochial Administrator of the Nuestra Señora de Fátima Parish in El Salto, Western Pastoral Zone of Managua.

12. Presbyter Víctor Pérez, who worked as Parish Administrator of the Nuestra Señora de Fátima Parish in El Salto, Western Pastoral Zone of Managua, is appointed Pastor of La Purísima Parish in Pacayita, Pastoral Zone of Masaya.

13. Presbyter Guillermo Majewsky who worked as Pastor of La Purísima Parish in Pacayita, Pastoral Zone of Masaya. he is appointed Pastor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish in La Concha, Pastoral Zone of Masaya.

14. Priest Lenin Orozco, who worked as Pastor of the Santa Clara de Asís Parish, Eastern Pastoral Zone of Managua, is appointed Parochial Vicar of the Santiago Apóstol Parish in Jinotepe, Pastoral Zone of Carazo.

Like the changes made in September 2022, the Archdiocese of Managua invited the Catholic parishioner to unite in prayer for these new pastoral missions assigned to the 14 religious who will assume their duties.

Despite the fact that the dictator Daniel Ortega affirms that in Nicaragua there is religious freedom and that there is no persecution against priests, at least 14 religious have been prisoners of conscience since 2022.

On the list of kidnapped priests is the bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa, Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, accused by the Ortega justice system of “conspiring against the country.”
