Cardinal Baltazar Porras reported that he was prevented from traveling to Isnotú for a mass of thanksgiving for the canonization of José Gregorio Hernández

Cardinal Baltazar Porras reported this Saturday that he was prevented from reaching Isnotú, in the state of Trujillo to attend the liturgical celebration for the canonization of José Gregorio Hernández which takes place this October 26.

Through the social network InstagramPorras made a public complaint about the situation.

“It is a tradition of the Church that when a canonization is carried out, masses of thanksgiving are celebrated in the places where the new saints have lived or developed their action. I have been invited by the bishop of Trujillo, for some time, to celebrate tomorrow, Sunday, October 26, the day of the liturgical festivities of José Gregorio Hernández,” he began to relate.

Complaint by Cardinal Baltazar Porras

He indicated that on the night of October 24 he received a call from the vice minister of worship of the Episcopal Conference informing him about the “inconvenience” of his presence at the celebrations. It was argued that there is a possibility of riots in the town.

Likewise, shortly afterward he was informed that the Conviasa flight on which he had planned to travel this Saturday was suspended. However, he clarified that They only notified him of the supposed suspension of the flight and he left and arrived in Valera without problems..

Following this, he took a private flight. But, Cardinal Porras pointed out that when they were in the air they informed the pilots that They had to land in Barquisimeto due to strong winds that forced the closure of the Valera airport. Despite this, the religious explained that they later confirmed that the Trujillo state air terminal did not register any closure.

Added to these irregularities was an important military presence at the Barquisimeto airport.

“Given the refusal that the airport was not open, they wanted to hire a van to make the transfer by land, something that was vetoed by the public force, the company to which the rental had been made. We were not allowed to leave the airport and we had to return in the middle of a military deployment,” he explained.

In this sense, he mentioned that, given that they prevented him from advancing towards the state of Trujillo, They had to return to the Maiquetía airport.

“It is striking that this type of thing happens. That as a citizen one cannot move from one place to another and with a military deployment,” he indicated.

Cardinal Porras clarified that he did not suffer any physical attack.
