Cardinal Baltazar Porras considers that the release of political prisoners in the December season is a gesture of “goodwill” and “political magnanimity”
The bishop of Mérida and apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of CaracasCardinal Baltazar Porras, sent a Christmas message to Venezuelans to express his solidarity with those who suffer inside and outside the country for various reasons such as forced migration, political prisoners, diseases, among others.
The letter calls on “those who have the power to make decisions” to grant measures that favor people deprived of liberty for crimes of conscience so that they return home and spend Christmas with the family.
“This would be a gesture of goodwill, humanity and even political magnanimity, which could contribute much to the much-needed reconciliation and social peace,” writes Cardinal Porras.

He warns that if the hope that Venezuelans keep within themselves does not materialize in concrete acts of justice, solidarity and attention to the weakest, a “logic of discarding” will continue to prevail and therefore, reach a new Heaven and a new Earth will take time to arrive.
“If hope in God does not have the good will of men, the seeds of the Kingdom of justice and peace cannot germinate,” the text refers to.
Cardinal Baltazar Porras also entrusted the Child God to all those who live in poverty, inequality and injustice, as well as to those who are responsible for public life, for what is the foundation of equity and justice to help have a better city and a better country.
