CARD finds it illegal to ask for water and electricity bills from public employees

The Bar Association of the Dominican Republic (CARD) described as illegal and unconstitutional and an attack on the privacy and dignity of citizens, the resolution of the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP) that forces State employees to present their invoices payment of electricity and drinking water in the institutions where they work.

For his part, the ombudsman, Pablo Ulloa, said he will study the measure to establish a position regarding its execution.

Trajano Potentini, president of the CARD, He warned that he will take the case to court if the MAP does not withdraw it.

“We ask that you withdraw it, because it is a massive violation of the rights of Dominicans,” he said in statements to El Nacional.

“It is an improvised circular that creates unrest in Dominican homes,” said the president of the entity.

Ombudsman

“The General Secretariat of the Ombudsman will evaluate said circular and will contact the Ministry of Administration to verify its scope,” said Ulloa.

“As our role is to be a guarantor of rights and good administration, we are working on an analysis of the impact that the said circular could have,” he continued, responding to a request from this newspaper.

Circular content

Through a circular, the MAP instructed the heads of public institutions to collect information on the payment of the aforementioned services among their staff.
