Caracas receives UNESCO certification as a Learning City

Caracas obtained the Learning City certification granted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), an announcement that was made by Mayor Carmen Meléndez during the 115th edition of the Habla Caracas program, broadcast from the Sucre parish.

The recognition was announced during the 52nd deployment of Operation Caracas Smile, an activity that brought together the community of Los Magallanes de Catia. The Venezuelan capital had previously been distinguished as a Creative City in Music, which reinforces its international profile in cultural and educational matters.

Representatives from the Magallanes Communal Circuits 1, 2 and 3 participated in the meeting, along with the Unidos Vista al Mar and Ecoambientalista El Tanque Communes, who shared experiences on community organization and local development projects.

The mayor reported that, through the Caravan of Solutions, 146 Communes and Communal Councils in the city have been visited. “Currently, Caracas has 208 consolidated Communes, which reflects progress in coordination with Popular Power,” he said.

“This new international recognition adds to the capital’s efforts to strengthen citizen participation, promote education and consolidate spaces for social transformation in different sectors,” concluded the mayor.
