A total of 1,794 communal justices of the peace in the country’s capital, made up of 897 main judges and 897 substitutes, formally assumed their responsibilities in an event held at the Municipal Theater of Caracas. The mayor of the Libertador municipality, Carmen Meléndez, reported on the important proclamation, which occurs within the framework of the celebration of the 25 years of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
During his speech, Meléndez highlighted the efforts of the judges during a brief but significant electoral campaign, which managed to mobilize the people and turn the event into a true democratic party. “You worked hard, communal justices of the peace, in a short but very heartfelt campaign, which encouraged the community to take to the streets,” he said.
The mayor highlighted that in each of the 289 communal circuits of Caracas a notable citizen participation was observed, which will allow conflicts in the communities to be resolved more quickly and thus optimize coexistence. “We are going to advance in the construction of peace, with awareness in each territory, as dreamed by Commander Chávez and our president Nicolás Maduro,” he added.
From now on, the new communal peace chiefs will begin a training period to learn the procedures they must follow. In addition, they will have the support of institutions such as the Supreme Court of Justice and the Public Defense, which will facilitate the streamlining of the processes.
Meléndez also congratulated the people of Caracas for their participation in the election day and thanked the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which was at the forefront of this effort, and stressed that “strength is in unity.”
“Long live Caracas and long live the Communal Justices of the Peace!” concluded the mayor by reaffirming the commitment of the local administration to peace and justice in the communities.
