Capture of Ovidio Guzmán: the operation with the lowest casualties since 2009

In July 2017, elements of the Navy were deployed in the La Conchita Zapotitlán neighborhood, in Mexico City to capture the leader of the so-called “Tláhuac Cartel”, however a confrontation between federal uniformed officers and alleged drug dealers to avoid arrest .

The operation concluded with the death of Felipe de Jesús Pérez, alias “El Ojos”, as well as seven members of the criminal organization, which triggered the registration of “narco-blockades” in Mexico City.

The Secretariat of Public Security of Mexico City reported that five heavy vehicles were burned and 25 motorcycle taxis that blocked the avenues were taken to the corralón. Likewise, the Ministry of Education reported that due to the operation, classes were suspended in schools in the demarcation, at the preschool, primary and secondary levels.

Shots were fired in the operation carried out by the Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office and the Army, but only one person was injured. According to the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), the arrest was made thanks to intelligence work, after a judge granted two search warrants on the property where they were, which allowed the arrest of “El Marro ” and eight other people, including his head of security, Saulo Sergio “N”.
