Capriles asks to release all political prisoners before the end of 2025

Capriles advocated for the release of all people imprisoned for political reasons and assured that as long as the persecution against dissidence continues there will be “no economic and social stability.”

Henrique Capriles Radonski affirmed that the release of a group of 99 political prisoners, in the early hours of December 25, is a “clear expression of will to generate a climate of internal peace.”

The leader of the Unión y Cambio party described the measure as necessary to contribute to the peace of the country, taking into account that the economic crisis is becoming increasingly worse with “the unstoppable devaluation and inflation.”

The politician asked for the release of all political prisoners before the end of 2025 and believed that “there will be no economic and social stability” as long as political persecution and violation of the Constitution by those in power continue.

“Each release is a necessary step to alleviate the suffering of entire families, restore violated rights and begin to heal the deep wounds left by repression,” he wrote in his account in X.

Released with precautionary measures

The Ministry for the Penitentiary Service confirmed the release of 99 post-election prisoners on December 25. After reviewing their cases, they were granted precautionary measures, he said on social networks.

According to the release published on Instagram, the release of those detained for political reasons is a “concrete expression of the State’s commitment to peace, dialogue and justice.”

The Penitentiary Ministry did not detail the names of those released or the detention centers where they were held. They also did not specify what precautionary measures these 99 people received.

Human rights organizations demanded the publication of the official list with the names of all the people who were released, since so far they have only been able to verify around half of the reported number.
