Capriles asks for the freedom of political prisoners at Christmas: Wounds must be healed

Henrique Capriles, leader of the Unión y Cambio party, advocated for the freedom of all political prisoners so that they can spend Christmas with their loved ones.

«There is 1 day left until Christmas Eve, when homes should be full of hugs and hope. “Hundreds of Venezuelan families experience the absence, silence and anguish of not having one of their own at home for political reasons,” wrote this December 23 in your account at X.

The elected deputy to the National Assembly pointed out that Christmas should be a time to show humanity and healing gestures.

In this sense, he asked for the freedom of the detainees. “The release of political prisoners would be a clear sign of peace, an act that would allow hundreds of homes to reunite and begin to heal deep wounds.”

The politician asked to end so much hatred and stated that the country needs justice, democracy, stability and tranquility.

This Sunday the 20th, the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners called for the “Table of those who wait” to request the freedom of people detained for political reasons.

In Madrid (Spain), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Cúcuta (Colombia), Quito (Ecuador), Utrecht (Netherlands) and in different parts of the United States (Washington DC, Miami, Missouri and Tampa) the Venezuelan diaspora mobilized and with long tables, Christmas decorations and photos with the names of the detainees, they symbolized the families who hope to have their loved ones back in their homes during the festivities.

According to the organization Foro Penal, there are a total of 902 political prisoners in Venezuela as of December 15, among whom are 86 with foreign nationality and 62 in conditions of forced disappearance.
