Capriles asks for speed in the amnesty law and to eliminate laws that violate freedoms

Capriles believed the amnesty should include the closure of the judicial case of those released from prison and the damage caused should be compensated. “The State has to respond,” he said.

The approval of an amnesty law is a very important step, but alone it is insufficient. This was stated by Henrique Capriles, who proposes the elimination of a set of laws aimed at violating citizen freedoms established in the Constitution.

During a live broadcast, through his social networks this Thursday, February 4, Capriles asked not to use the amnesty law as a salute to the flag.

“We must accept the amnesty truly, with force, as the step towards that new political moment that should allow us to move towards democracy. We must not be afraid of democracy,” he said.

He hopes that the amnesty law will reach the National Assembly in the next few hours and just as the oil issue was given urgency with the approval of the reform to the Organic Hydrocarbons Law, the amnesty law will be given urgency.

Capriles believed that the process must include the closure of the judicial case of the released people and the damage caused must be compensated. “The State has to respond,” he said.

Among the laws that in Capriles’ opinion should be eliminated in this new political stage are the Law against Hate, for Peaceful Coexistence and Tolerance; the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law against the Imperialist Blockade; and the Law of Social Responsibility in Radio, Television and Electronic Media (Resorte).

The parliamentarian from the Unión y Cambio party hopes that in this review process that is taking place in the country there will also be rectification. “I hope that the censored journalists return to their spaces, that they do not read you a primer when you go to the opinion programs about prohibited words…” commented the politician, who insisted on a debate on the recovery of full freedoms.

“For the country to have economic stability, it must have political stability. The amnesty must be accompanied by many things, it should not remain a speech.”

On the economic issue, he asked to give it priority and not wait any longer for Venezuelans to begin to see improvements.

He again recalled his proposals: a single payment of $150 for pensioners, an increase in the minimum wage to $150 with an indexation clause, lowering the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 16% to 14% and eliminating the Large Financial Transactions Tax (IGTF).

*Journalism in Venezuela is carried out in a hostile environment for the press with dozens of legal instruments in place to punish the word, especially the laws “against hate”, “against fascism” and “against the blockade.” This content was written taking into consideration the threats and limits that, consequently, have been imposed on the dissemination of information from within the country.
