The capital of São Paulo is on alert for flooding in all regions due to areas of instability and rain generated by the muggy weather. According to the city’s Emergency Management Center (CGE-SP), meteorological radars show heavy rain with the potential for hail and flooding.
“The rains should continue to fluctuate in intensity, and in isolation throughout the afternoon. Lightning and localized gusts of wind may occur, which increases the potential for flooding and falling trees”, warns the CGE-SP.
According to the CGE-SP, there are already two flooding points in the West Zone: one in Butantã (Avenida Francisco Morato, towards the center) and Pinheiros (Max Feffer tunnel, towards the neighborhood), which is impassable. In the East Zone, still passable, the flooding is on Avenida Conde de Frontin, in Penha, towards the center. In the South and Southwest Zones there are two impassable points: on Alameda Santo Amaro, towards the neighborhood and on the Grande São Paulo viaduct, towards Vila Prudente.
The widespread and intense rain is the result of a low pressure system spreading across southern Brazil and should influence the weather in the State of São Paulo. Tuesday (9) should continue to be rainy from dawn, due to the action of this system, with temperatures varying between 20°C and 23°C. Winds can exceed 60 km/h, especially in the afternoon.
On Wednesday (10) there are still conditions for rain during the early hours of the morning, but they should decrease in intensity throughout the day. The sun appears between clouds and thermometers should vary between minimums of 19°C and maximums that can reach 27°C. There are still conditions for wind gusts of up to 60 km/h, which together with the waterlogged soil keeps the potential for tree falls in Greater São Paulo high.
