The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has its first saints, Mother Carmen Rendiles and Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, after a solemn ceremony that took place in the Vatican, Italy, where the head of the country’s delegation in Rome, Gabriela Jiménez, was present, who expressed that with this act of canonization the peace of a nation is celebrated.
“Today we also celebrate service to others and a life of holiness, which is shown daily with everything that has been the experience of José Gregorio, there are 77 years where the people of Venezuela made an effort to demonstrate the more than three million miracles that today rest in the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria church,” he stressed.
She explained that there converges an experience of construction and faith, “and this is how this act of canonization demonstrates the creed of the Venezuelan people, a people that is at the service of the noblest reasons for humanity and as women we feel proud to see ourselves reflected in the likeness of Mother Carmen Rendiles, of how to transform everyday life into love.”
For his part, he added that the Venezuelan delegation held a meeting with the secretary of the Vatican Office, Cardinal Pietro Parolin and today, a special greeting with Pope Leo XIV, sent to him by the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in the name of the peace and joy that is celebrated in Venezuela.
He indicated that the Supreme Pontiff congratulated the Venezuelan delegation, “that we celebrate this act and the unity of the Venezuelan people as part of the sanctification of these two distinguished Venezuelans.”
He also added that after a conversation with the head of state, he commissioned the Venezuelan science and technology commission to carry out a scientific investigation into the work of José Gregorio Hernández and how, through science, he cultivated his faith.
