Cano: “We have reduced 10% of water production in the capital due to the low levels of Lake Alajuela”

Angel Valdes | May 19, 2023

The Director of Operations of the Institute of National Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN), Iván Cano, explained that despite the rains that have fallen in recent days, this has not represented a recovery of rivers and lakes for a better distribution of water for the population.

“Although it is true that certain rainfall has occurred, it does not represent a necessary amount for the levels of the rivers and lakes to recover, so we continue to monitor us and carry out measures, including the regulation of pressures in our main conduction lines. In order to reduce the amount of losses, not only our leaks, but also the home leaks, we are also doubling the operational force in terms of repairing leaks and the support of the media to raise awareness among the population about the correct use of the year,” he declared. Spout.

Faced with complaints of lack of water in different sectors in the capital city, Cano pointed out that due to the drought they have been limited in the production of drinking water “The level of the lake (Alajuela) is around 204 feet, let’s say it does not continue in decline but it is not recovering either, so taking this situation into account since we are limited in production capacity, we have reduced 10% and that percentage less than we are injecting into the city implies a shortage or a lack of continuity of service in many remote and high-rise sectors of the city that are the ones that suffer the most”.
