The short stars the American actor ethan hawke (“The seven mercenaries”) and the Chilean Peter Pascal (“The last of us”), who together with Almodóvar will hold a meeting with the public after the premiere, reported the statement.
It is the second work that Almodóvar shoots in English, after “The Human Voice”another short that was released in 2020.
“Strange way of life” narrates the reunion of two gunmen. “I’m not going to say anything else so as not to reveal all the surprises of the script”explains Almodóvar in the production notes of the short.
“The strange way of living to which the title alludes refers to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, whose lyrics suggest that there is no stranger existence than the one we live when we turn our backs on our own desires”adds the filmmaker from La Mancha.
This short marks Almodóvar’s return to Cannes, where throughout his career he has presented four feature films, two of them award-winning.
“Everything about my mother” in 1999 won the award for best direction, and in 2006 “Return” won the award for best screenplay and the prize (ex-aequo) for best female performance (for Penelope Cruz).
Pedro Almodóvar chaired the festival jury in 2017.
Director of “tie me up”known for his promotional skills, had already revealed last December, during a chat with the singer Dua Lipawho was going to present this new work in Cannes.
“It’s a ‘queer’ western, in the sense that there are two men who love each other”said the Manchego filmmaker then.
He cannes film festival will take place between May 16 and 27, and stars such as Martin Scorsese, Harrison Ford as “Indiana Jones” either Johnny Deppwhich will open the festival with Jeanne du Barryfrom the French Maiwenn.
The official selection of the contest will be announced on Thursday.
