Canelones allows fractional sale of products in stores and small surfaces

The Municipality of Canelones enabled stores and small stores to sell food products in a fractional way, in order to “adapt” this type of offer to final consumers, reported the mayor Yamandú Orsi. He said that it was through a “concern” from the Center for Retail Storekeepers, Baristas, Self-service Workers and the like of Uruguay (Cambadu).

The goal is that “in the neighborhoods, in small businesses, some products can be fractioned,” said the mayor. And he added: “The regulation offers some limitations (…) It is designed for small businesses in the neighborhoods because the purchasing power of the people sometimes needs to adapt this type of offer,” he said.

The commune took into account, Orsi said, the conditions of hygiene, care, and that not all products can be divided “as it was in the days of the old warehouse.”
