Of all the major league stadiums where it has been played full time in the last five years, the Oracle Park of San Francisco is where less home runs have stuck (700), matched with the PNC Park of Pittsburgh. The giants fief has not been particularly friendly with the batters, to the point that any franchise player has passed the 30 home run barrier in a season since 2004.
But right there, against the breeze of the Bay of San Francisco, the Cuban José Iglesias broke a chain of 91 games with at least one appearance to the dish without connecting a home run, the worst streak of his career in MLB by wide margin. The event occurred on Wednesday in the duel between parents and giants, in which “Candelita” hunted a Slider Just in the center of the left -handed Robbie Ray and sent her to fly through the left garden.
At the first launch, Iglesias quickly took out his arms and dispatched a high that came out of his bat to 96.2 miles and toured 358 feet, a not -so -long hit for home run. In this way, “Candelita” broke a streak of 300 trips to the plate without taking out the ball from the park and, incidentally, established a record of home runs for Cuban players in MLB of which little – or perhaps nothing – has been spoken.
The mysterious record
How is it possible that a baseball player with only 52 lifecases for life has implemented a new homemade brand for Antillanos in MLB? Well, there is the unknown of the matter. It turns out that Iglesias is the first Cuban who hits at least one bambinazo with eight different teams in the elderly, which undone with José Cardenal, José Canseco, Yonder Alonso, Adeiny Hechevarría and Kendrys Morales, who managed to disappear the ball wearing the flannel of seven organizations.
The “Candelita” trip began more than a decade ago, on September 20, 2012, when it was a member of the Red Sox. Of its 52 home runs, 15 have been measured beyond 400 feet, and the longest recorded was connected on April 8, 2017. Against left -handed Eduardo Rodríguez (Red Sox), “Candelita” dispatched a 433 feet missile through the left forest of the Encherica Park in Detroit.
But there are more miscellaneous about their home run:
* Of their 52 bambinazos, nine have served to tie matches and 12 to give advantage to their team.
* It has connected nine home run to the first launch, but the count in which it has thrown more balls (11) has been the ball and a Strike.
* Of their flycakes, 30 have been at home and 22 as a visitor, while it has hit the rights (29) than left -handed (23).
* He has punished 51 pitchers, but the only one who has connected a homer per departure is Trevor Hildenberger.
* His only match with two home runs was on July 12, 2024 against the rockies. That day bombarded Tanner Gordon and Peter Lambert.
* He has hit homes against 26 teams of the major. He is pending Detroit, Arizona, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
* Of their flycakes, 27 have been without anyone in circulation and two with the bases full, both in 2019 and against the Pirates. The first Grand Slam He arrived on May 27 (vs. Mitch Keller) and the second on July 29 (Vs. Montana Durapau).
Homers everywhere
José Iglesias could have home runs with nine different teams, because in 2023 he signed with the Marlins, but never got to MLB with the organization of the south of Florida and chose to leave his contract. For their part, home runs with eight different teams have hit 33 players, including “Candelita”, Panamanian Roberto Kelly, Dominican Melky Cabrera and Puerto Rican Benito Santiago, René Rivera, Juan Beníquez, Fermín López, José Hernández and Rubén Sierra.
In total, there are 288 players in the history of Major Leagues who have played in a minimum of eight different teams. Of these, 50 have hit homers with at least eight of their squads. The only Cuban name included in these lists is that of José “Candelita” Iglesias, then owner of one of the Antillanos records in MLB that is less known.
