Cancer patient turned 15 and had her dream party at the Hospital de Clínicas

Prof. Dr. Angélica Samudio, Head of the Department of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology of the Hospital de Clínicas de la FCMUNA, highlighted the great heart and commitment of benefactors who made possible a wonderful party for the quinceañera, forgetting for a moment any ailment.

Usually, part of the activities of the Department of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology with the help of the RENACI Foundation is to hold celebrations for patients who have their birthdays, in a common monthly party.

“On this occasion we wanted to fulfill the dream of the patient

, who wanted to have her 15th birthday party, and through volunteers and the RENACI Foundation, her wish was fulfilled and she received her outfit, food, setting, as well as many other gifts. In this way we want children who also have their birthdays in the month to be able to enjoy their moment and share with other children and that the disease does not make their lives just about medical treatments”, explained Prof. Dr. Samudio.

Timely universal access to treatment

Prof. Dr. Angélica Samudio explained that the FCMUNA Department of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology provides free treatment to its patients, thanks to the constant support it receives from the FCMUNA School Hospital, foundations and associations, so that they do not lack any medication or supplies necessary to receive the best care. This, in turn, encourages adherence and strict compliance with treatment, essential for patient recovery.

The Department of Pediatric Hemato-Oncology has qualified professionals who ensure that patients receive the best comprehensive treatment. Per year, the Hospital de Clínicas of the FCMUNA receives between 500 and 700 patients who require specialized care. “The treatment of children with cancer is advancing by leaps and bounds, so we always think that it will be the best prognosis and that the most important thing is to be able to access the new technologies and the best medicines that are being used”, added Prof. Dr. Angélica Samudio.

He stressed that timely universal access to medicines, to the new drugs that are used, is essential for all patients, not only for those who are admitted to the Hospital de Clínicas, but for all those who require it at the country level.
