Canal Caribe journalist dies at 33

MIAMI, United States. – Journalist Magda Iris Chirolde, editor-in-chief of Canal Caribe news programs, died on Wednesday night, according to reports from colleagues and official Cuban media on social media.

The cause of death of the 33-year-old was not specified by any source.

“Before assuming responsibilities at the Cuban News Channel, Magda, a native of Pinewood of the riverwas part of the team of the provincial newspaper Guerrilla and from the magazine Technical Youth”, posted on Facebook the Caribbean Canal.

“His nobility, sense of justice, and constant effort to be better every day will always accompany us,” the media added.

For its part, the magazine Technical Youth lament Chirolde’s death and recalled that the young journalist worked in his editorial office for several years.

“Magda came to the magazine with a great desire to grow as a professional and as a human being, and she achieved this. She offered us her talent for various topics, mainly energy and robotics, and was a fundamental link with CUJAE,” the publication stated.

He also recalled that Chirolde was in charge of the audiovisual department and supervised the podcast section, in addition to covering the sending of a brigade of doctors to Italy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Although he said goodbye some time ago, JT To take on new challenges in television, he maintained excellent personal and professional relationships with the editorial team,” the publication says.

Numerous colleagues of the young woman also expressed their condolences on social media.

“Magda has left us, too soon, as one would not expect. The noblest soul of our editorial team, the hard-working and responsible professional, has left us. Rest in peace. The days at NTV will not be the same without you,” wrote the official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso.

For his part, the president of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, also expressed his condolences on Facebook“How sad is the death of a young woman who, with her human and professional values, had already deserved such important responsibilities in Cuban Television. To her family and colleagues, our condolences in this hour of pain,” he wrote.
