A plane from the Canadian airline Sunwing landed in an emergency on Tuesday afternoon at the airport of Varadero.
The aircraft, a Boing 737-800, had taken off from Santa Clara bound for Canada, and after its departure it presented problems with its landing gear and declared an emergency, according to press reports.
Faced with this situation, the plane carried out maneuvers over the province of Matanzas until it managed to land passengers and crew, aim the digital site cubadebate.
According to the outlet, which cites social media posts and a source from the Cuban Air Navigation Company (ECNA), “the emergency landing was completed satisfactorily after the landing gear was not retracted as it should.”
“All the established procedures were carried out, the pilot managed to make a successful maneuver,” the note added.
For his part, Matanzas journalist Pedro Rizo Martínez reported on his Facebook profile that the ship, with 190 passengers on board, managed to land “without major problems” thanks to the expertise of the crew.
Rizo confirmed that in Matanzas the emergency protocols were activated to assist the Sunwing plane and that no injuries were reported in the event.
In addition, he narrated that after the landing, the workers of the Juan Gualberto Gómez de Varadero airport and authorities from Matanzas welcomed the passengers and crew with applause.
