MADRID, Spain.- The Canadian airline Air Transat resumed its flights to Havana this week, after three years suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Air Transat is pleased to be back in Havana. After three years of forced closure, we are proud to be back in the Cuban capital,” the company said through Twitter.

The route, which links the cities of Montreal and Havana, reopened this Monday with a flight of 152 passengers. The flights will have two weekly frequencies.
The official media Latin Press He pointed out that “this airlift will enable Canadian tourists to learn about the culture and traditions of the Antillean capital, whose historic center and system of fortifications have held the status of Cultural Heritage of Humanity granted by Unesco since 1982.”
Air Transat, with headquarters in Montreal and some 60 international destinations, already made flights to the resort of Varadero, Cayo Coco and the cities of Camagüey, Santa Clara and Holguín.
Canadian tourism has traditionally been a lifeline for the Cuban regime; and it continued to be so this year.
According to official data Published by the Island’s Statistics and Information Office (ONEI), at the end of July the figures reaffirmed Canada as the main source market for tourists to Cuba, with 258,896.
In October of this year, Canada suspended the travel requirements adopted during the pandemic, that is, it eliminated tests and quarantine.
