Canadian airline Air Transat resumed its route between Montreal and Havana

OnCubaNews

The Canadian airline Air Transat reactivated this Monday its usual connection between the city of Montreal and Havana with a first flight that transported 152 passengers to the Cuban capital.

After three years without covering the itinerary due to the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Air Transat expressed through its Twitter account “proud to return to the Cuban capital,” according to a note from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

As reported, the company will offer two direct flights per week from the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec to Havana.

The airlift will enable Canadian tourists to learn about the culture and traditions of the Antillean capital, whose historic center and fortification system have held the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982, recalls the media.

With its return to Havana, the Canadian airline expands its operations on the island, where it also has flights to the resort of Varadero, the tourist center of Cayo Coco and the cities of Santa Clara, Camagüey and Holguín.

Air Transat is headquartered in Montreal and carries out itineraries to some 60 international destinations, distributed across 25 countries in Latin America and Europe.

In turn, it offers domestic and connecting flights within Canada, transporting some five million passengers each year.

The Canadian market is one of the main tourism markets in Cuba, a sector that ranks second in importance for the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and occupies the same position among the sources of foreign currency income for its economy.

In 2022, the projections of receiving 2.5 million foreign visitors advanced by the Cuban government were not met, which later set that figure at 1.7 million by the end of the year.
