Two Canadian airlines announced Tuesday that they are suspending flights to Cuba after the government of Havana announced that planes will not be able to refuel on the island for lack of fuelamid pressure measurements of donald trump.
Air Transat and WestJetboth specialized in vacation travel, joined Air Canadawhich on Monday reported that it was canceling its routes to Cuba.
The Cuban economy is going through one of its worst moments in six decades, aggravated by the threats from the American president against any country that exports oil to the island.
Air Transat said it is canceling all flights to Cuba until at least April 30, “in light of the rapid developments of the last few hours and the announcement by Cuban authorities of an expected shortage of aviation fuel at destination airports.”
“Depending on how the situation evolves, flights to Cuba could resume as of May 1, 2026,” he added.
He specified that the airline would contact customers who are currently in Cuba for their repatriation.
For its part, WestJet announced “an orderly withdrawal of our winter operations to Cuba” and said in a statement that it would also begin sending empty planes to Cuba — loaded with additional fuel — to bring customers back.
