During the meeting, both delegations highlighted the good state of relations and agreed on the importance of continuing “working on the development of trade and cooperation ties.”
The delegations from Cuba and Canada were headed by the island’s first deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Peñalver, and the first deputy minister of Global Affairs of the North American country, David Morrison.
“The Cuban side recognized Canada’s traditional support for the (UN) resolution against the blockade/embargo imposed by the United States on the island, as well as appreciated the support received during the fire at the supertanker base in the western province of Matanzas”, added the Minrex.
Cuba and Canada established diplomatic relations in 1945 and have maintained close commercial ties ever since.
In addition, the North American country is the first emitter of tourists on the island. In 2022, more than half a million Canadians visited Cuba, points out efe.
