This Sunday the 17th, at 9 p.m., one week before the runoff on television and radio, the debate between the candidates for president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi and Luis Delgado, will be broadcast live; Luis Delgado and Yamandú Orsi.
EL ECO consulted the sociologist, and director of the consulting firm Factum, Eduardo Bottinelli, about what the impact of the debate will be on citizens.
The first thing the professional pointed out is that “we have not had many debates in Uruguay. They do not generate big changes, especially when they are in this very structured format. Because those who are most interested in the debate are the most informed people, closest to politics and in general have more or less decided their vote in a very relevant portion.”
He recalled that in 2019 a study was done and “we found that only 2% of those who had watched the debate had the intention of modifying their vote and when we saw where, in reality it was not to one side. Those who switched to Martínez and those who switched to Lacalle Pou were compensated. So, in itself it does not generate an effect from an electoral point of view in terms of volume. Yes, it could be useful, if some topics were presented that would capture the attention of the entire non-politicized population,” said the director of Factum.
