Dozens of fans of Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro met this Sunday in the streets of Belo Horizonte and unleashed a pitched battle similar to those that have been seen in recent weeks in other cities in Brazil.
According to the police, at least three people were injured and Two of them were hospitalized in serious condition, With head injuries.
The authorities reported that the fans attacked with sticks, iron bars and other “forceful objects” and that at least two dozens have been arrested. The incidents took place hours before the horizon Belo derby corresponding to the Championship of the State of Minas Gerais.
A very violent rivalry
Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro are the most founded football rivals in the state of Minas Gerais. The quarrels among their fans are recurring, as in many of the regional championships in most Brazil.
