Camiri celebrates 87 years of foundation

Once the largest oil production center in Bolivia, this July 12, Camiri celebrates 87 years of foundation. 87 years have passed since, in 1935, the president of the republic, José Luis Tejada Sorzano, issued a supreme decree expropriating 300 hectares of land belonging to Clelia Vda. From Vanussi, territory where what is now the urban area of ​​Camiri would settle.

This intermediate city, located in part of the extensive territory known as the Cordillera de los Chiriguanos, which included what is now the Cordillera province and large territorial extensions, was born as a product of the discovery of great oil riches in the Serranía del Sararenda, where the first oil well drilled in the country is still in operation.

Far from the bonanza that brought about the great productivity of the area, today Camiri celebrates its 87th anniversary forgotten by the national and departmental authorities. Its economy is based on the informal economy and the strong influence of the Integral Faculty of Chacoan academic unit dependent on the Gabriel René Moreno University, which houses thousands of students, especially from the Chaco area and whose stay boosts the regional economy.

Within the activities to celebrate the date, this Monday started the productive fair ‘Camiri Diversa’, a meeting to taste the regional gastronomy and buy clothing, handicrafts and recyclable products.

In the evening, at the Abel Iturralde soccer field in Camiri, will develop the traditional serenade artistic and cultural with the participation of local artists and special guests, such as Ronald Arteaga, Los Vidaleros, Orquesta Bailable, among others.
