The program Reporting Pathsfrom the TV Brazilwon the 1st MOL Journalism Award for Solidarity in the Video category with the episode “Gastronomia da Solidaridade”, by journalist Aline Beckstein.
The award-winning episode presents the social gastronomy movement, with initiatives that have promoted the transformation of communities through food, whether through community kitchens or the rescue of culinary traditions in quilombola communities.
The team went to the Quilombola community Cafundá Astrogilda, in the West Zone of the city of Rio, to see the restaurant that operates there, open to the public, under the command of two women. In the community, residents struggle to maintain traditions, including cuisine, and seek food security through the use of so-called “non-conventional food plants”, such as ora-pro-nóbis and taioba, which grow naturally in the area.
Also in Rio de Janeiro, the TV Brazil visited the dining hall of the non-governmental organization Gastromotiva, opened in 2016. Solidarity dinners were served there for the homeless population, but with the onset of the pandemic, the space became a center for the production of takeaway food.
During the award ceremony, the president of Brazil Communication Company (EBC)Hélio Doyle, congratulated the program’s team: “The Paths of Reportage is one of the prides of TV Brazil and the EBC, and the Mol award is further proof of the quality of this work. Congratulations to journalist Aline Beckstein and the entire team.”
