The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Arnoldo Wiens, along with other authorities and businessmen, toured the Civic Axis of the future Government Offices in the port area of Asunción.
The purpose of the visit is to enable a cultural walk with works by plastic artists and sculptors within the premises.
Representatives from the National Secretariat of Culture (SNC), the Cultural Center of the Republic El Cabildo, directors of the TBI Consortium, the Paraguayan Industrial Union (UIP), as well as the Paraguayan Road Chamber (Cavialpa) and the Paraguayan Chamber of the Construction Industry (Capaco).
Minister Wiens indicated that they will move forward with the proposal to add more cultural value to the common area of the port area. “This will be a place where many people will be able to walk and admire the works of national artists, which is why we are working in coordination with the TBI Consortium, with the SNC and with cultural references,” he explained.
He indicated that the SNC will lead the process of designing the bases and conditions of an ideas contest, “in the meantime, we are inviting the business sector and unions so that they can spread this idea and make possible the financing of the works.” He stressed that cultural spaces should be finished alongside offices.
For her part, Maricarmen Couchonnal, general director of Cultural Heritage of the SNC, specified that they will work together with the artists’ guild for the development of the specifications of bases and conditions for the call for the competition of the sculptural group in the Civic Axis.
Enrique Duarte, president of the UIP, showed his admiration for the building complex and added that this milestone will revalue the entire area to make it more modern. He argued that the work of the Government Offices is not only necessary, but also very important. “I congratulate the wise decision of the governments that have participated in giving a new face to the City of Asunción. This will have a positive impact on the results and response times by the public administration”, he pointed out.
Regarding the involvement of the UIP in the initiative to allocate part of this new citizen space to encourage and promote national art, he pointed out: “It is a first visit; however, we are going to get involved and support everything that is good to enhance culture and build a better city and country”, concluded Duarte.
