The Executive Management Committee of the Chamber of Foreign Commerce (Gecex-Camex) zeroed the import tax on 13 products. Among the items benefited are medicines used to treat prostate cancer and other types of cancer.
Other products with zero tariffs are inputs used in the production of medical gloves, wind blades, tires and agricultural pesticides, hydrogel contact lenses and films for x-rays. The import tax, which ranged from 3.6% to 18%, was zeroed.
According to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (Mdic), tariffs for these products were zeroed to meet internal demand for products with little national production.
Gecex-Camex also granted ex-tariffs for 226 capital goods products (machinery and equipment used in production) and for 202 items under the Non-Produced Auto Parts Regime in the country. Through the ex-tariff, products without similar national production now have their import tariff reduced or zeroed.
The Mdic also ruled in favor of requests for tariff increases to strengthen local production and create jobs in Brazil. The products include glass inputs for industrial purposes and photovoltaic cells used in the production of solar panels.
In the case of glass, the rates went from a range of 9% to 16.2% to 25%. For solar panel inputs, tariffs rose from 9.6% to 25% on what exceeds the import quota.
The Mdic did not provide further details, such as the names of the medicines with zero tariffs or the complete list of products with zero tariffs. The measures come into force after the publication of the resolution in the Official Gazette of the Union, scheduled to take place in the coming days.
