The Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Caroní municipality (Camcaroni) He expressed his concern about the serious shortage of gasoline in the Bolívar state that worsens with the passing of the days.
They say that the situation has affected the municipality for five years, “with serious consequences, especially in the border states. In particular, in the Caroní municipality there have been seasons of uncertainty, physical and mental exhaustion in drivers, as well as misinformation about the cause of this restriction.
According to the institutional note, the president of Camcaroní, Catherine Wilson, considers it urgent that the competent entities expose to the Guyanese the real reasons that prevent the distribution of gasoline in the town from being daily and without the order of a license plate terminal, as happens -for example- in the Angostura del Orinoco municipality (Ciudad Bolívar), and other areas of the country.
“As a union, we demand answers from the competent entities. It’s enough to be treated like second class citizens; It is already good that silence reigns and not the truth about the fuel crisis in Caroní”, expressed Wilson.
The union leader maintains that the worsening of fuel shortages prevents the Bolívar state from being “reborn” and from improving its economy.
In accordance with Caroní Mail, Drivers in Ciudad Guayana have access to fuel approximately every 15 days, forced by an inter-day gasoline distribution scheme and the order by car license plate terminal.
gasoline absenteeism
Entrepreneurs affiliated with Camcaroní have told the board of directors the increase in absenteeism in the workplace, due to the long queues to which their employees are subjected to obtain liters of gasoline for their vehicle.
Other merchants and members of this union have been forced to grant paid leave, so that workers queue where they spend, even more than 24 hours waiting for their turn and without full security that they can supply.
The fuel shortage not only affects citizens with private cars, but also public transport in general, who, faced with the need to have access to subsidized gasoline, have paralyzed their transport units, further complicating mobilization in Ciudad Guayana.
The Guyanese closed 2022 with huge lines for gasoline and without statements from the State to explain the reasons for the problem, which in 2023 continues to affect the daily lives of citizens.
From Camcaroní they reiterate the urgency of an official statement on the subject, stressing that access to information is a fundamental right of citizens and a necessity for companies.
